Single-ended silicone oil: coats the material’s surface with a functional layer.

In the field of material modification, many additives face a common dilemma: they deliver excellent performance upon application, but their effectiveness fades after just a few uses. With wiping, friction, and aging, the functional layer gradually peels away, leaving only a fleeting, short-lived effect.
Is there a way to make the modification effect “grow” on the material’s surface, rather than simply “stick” to it?
Betely single-ended silicone oil offers a solution: it permanently anchors functional chain segments to the material’s surface via chemical reactions.

What is single-ended silicone oil?
Single-ended silicone oil is a reactive surface modifier. Its molecular structure is quite unique—its two ends serve distinct functions:
● One end is a silicone chain: it imparts low surface energy, making the material smooth, water-repellent, stain-resistant, and easy to clean.
● The other end bears reactive functional groups (such as hydroxyl, acrylate, methoxy, etc.): these form strong covalent bonds with the substrate or resin via chemical reactions, achieving permanent anchoring.
Unlike bis‑functional silicone oils, which are reactive at both ends and prone to crosslinking and thickening, monofunctional silicone oils possess only a single reactive site. After grafting, the organosilicone chains adopt a “pendant brush‑like” arrangement on the material’s surface. This architecture not only fully exploits the low surface energy, imparting excellent slip, hydrophobicity, and anti‑soiling properties, but also avoids drastic increases in system viscosity or gelation, resulting in superior processing stability.

Conventional silicone oils adhere to surfaces via physical adsorption, with their performance rapidly diminishing after wiping or solvent cleaning. In contrast, single‑ended silicone oils are covalently “anchored” within the material network or on the substrate surface, exhibiting markedly superior resistance to abrasion, solvents, and aging compared to traditional additives, thereby extending functional durability by an order of magnitude.
Four Core Product Lines
Betely single-ended silicone oils cover four distinct functional-group systems, making them suitable for a variety of application scenarios:
1. Monofunctional hydroxyl silicone oil — suitable for polyurethane (PU) systems
The hydroxyl group can react with the isocyanate groups in the PU system, permanently incorporating the organosilicon chain into the PU molecular network.
Application scenarios:
● PU synthetic leather and elastomers: offer a smoother, more supple feel, enhanced abrasion resistance, and superior hydrolysis resistance.
● Coatings and inks: Eliminate defects such as craters and orange-peel texture; the resulting film is hydrophobic, stain-resistant, and easy to clean.
● Epoxy resin modification: reduces internal stress, enhances crack resistance, and imparts excellent release properties.
● Textile finishing: The fabric is fluffy and soft, while also offering antistatic properties.

2. Mono‑terminated trimethoxysilane —— Suitable for dispersing inorganic fillers and enhancing adhesion
After hydrolysis, trimethoxy groups can form strong chemical bonds with the hydroxyl groups on the surfaces of inorganic substrates such as glass and metals, serving as an “organic–inorganic bridge.”
Application scenarios:
● Inorganic filler coupling: Ensures uniform dispersion of fillers such as calcium carbonate, talc, and silica, preventing agglomeration and sedimentation.
● Adhesion enhancement: Ensures the paint film firmly “grasps” challenging substrates such as glass and metal, preventing peeling.
● Thermal interface materials: used for thermal management in electric vehicle batteries and high-performance chips.
● RTV silicone rubber adhesion promoter: enhances the bond strength of sealants to metal and glass.

3. Single-ended acrylate silicone oil — suitable for UV-curing systems
The acrylate double bond can participate in UV‑initiated free-radical polymerization, permanently incorporating the organosilicon chain into the UV‑curable resin network.
Application scenarios:
● UV coating for phone cases: smoother surface, fingerprint-resistant, and scratch-resistant.
● UV ink: offers superior leveling, resulting in a smooth, non‑sticky print surface.
● 3D-printing photopolymer resin: reduces brittleness, enhances demolding performance, and improves surface finish.
● Optical protective film: low haze, hydrophobic and anti-fouling

4. Monofunctional hydrogen‑terminated silicone oil — suitable for tuning the properties of silicone rubber and for hydrosilylation reactions.
Hydrogen‑containing silicone oils can undergo hydrosilylation to participate in crosslinking, thereby tuning the hardness and elasticity of silicone rubber; they can also react with compounds bearing double bonds to yield a variety of functionalized silicone oils.
Application scenarios:
● Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) hardness control: By reducing the crosslink density, low-hardness, highly elastic products can be obtained.
● Textile multifunctional finishing agent: imparts exceptional softness and a silky-smooth hand feel to fibers.
● Adhesive performance modification: enhancing flexibility, peel strength, and resistance to high and low temperatures.
● Synthesis of additives such as defoamers and leveling agents: Polyethers and alkyl‑modified silicone oils are prepared via hydrosilylation.
